I knew about dark mode but hadn’t used it until last night. I’m another convert. I ride a lot at night and the dark mode reduces the glare from the unit (I ride with the backlight on permanently). I use dark mode a lot on other devices (phone, laptop etc) so I’m not sure what took me so long to convert on the Wahoo!

Hmmmm - seems to have a problem with how the roam calculates average speed.

On the Garmin - buy the time I had rolled of my estate the average speed after perhaps a minute cycling was around 14-16mph - on the roam it's 8mph.!!!!!

Today I was riding a route which took ages to load - I knew the start of the route so started before it fully loaded - again after a long slightly downhill start - wahoo was reporting my average as 9mph !

Seems like it takes the average(or start time) from switch on or finding the GPS signal - not when the wheels of the bike start rolling or when I press start on wahoo ?

Any thoughts ?

You need very little backlight at night. You could see if you can set it to 10% or so.

Curious. What is the display showing when you are riding? Did it have a signal when you set off? As far as I can tell it shouldn’t start calculating until you press start. The only way it would underestimate to that extent is if it didnt have a gps signal for a chunk of the journey.

My Wahoo, starts or stops in tune with the bike. Have you checked your auto-paused settings. It would be worth checking the "ride paused" settings. I don't know if Garmin has this but Wahoo will calculate and report total time elapsed, ride time and paused time.

Did my first ride with my new-to-me, second hand element roam v1 today. Absolutely loved it. So much easier for this Luddite than the garmin I tried earlier in the year. One question though.

I diverted off my planned route (imported via gpx) to go to a cafe. The machine beeped at me incessantly because it thought I was going wrong! I’m grateful it wouldn’t stop warning me but is there any way I can reassure it that I’m happy with my choice and it can stop beeping?

Glad you've found one you like.

You can turn off sound on alerts on the phone app, which I do 'cos I hate being beeped at, or you can exit the route on the device (you can restart the route when you want of it's a temporary diversion)

Routing and recording are separate, stopping the route has no effect on recording your ride.
