What is the forum's opinion on waistcoats?

Yes. You had to wear a white t-shirt or mainly white collarless union shirt under it for the full effect.

There was a shop in Blackburn that sold these for a fiver.

Waistcoats are OK, but some people should never wear them. Probably sensible in the cold...
Vests, however, should not exist IMO.
The puffy ones (that look like bulletproof vests) navy blue or black, worn along with baseball caps....Nope.
