Waiting for Star Wars

The new Star Wars film is due December 15.

So, here's a surprising thing I've just worked out. It will be a longer gap between The Phantom Menace being released and this new film (16.5 years) than between Return Of The Jedi and The Phantom Menace release (16 years).

Sorry, boring to most but the wait for a new Star Wars after Return Of The Jedi seemed like a lifetime! Whether it was worth the wait is another story....

The CGI effects had moved on so far between RoJ and PM that they seem like films from different eras, has the CGI moved on again quite so much in the last 16 years?

Yes, I think so. In a well made film now it's hard to tell what is CGI and what isn't.

However, if a recent article in Empire magazine is to be believed, they plan to go back to more model shots and physical effects for the new films to try and capture the feel of the originals.

I'm not really a fan of Star Wars, but are you not comparing different timescales? Was return of the Jedi not the last of the trilogy and phantom menace the first of the next trilogy? Should you not compare the last film of the new trilogy (sorry don't know the name) to this latest release?

I quite liked the original trilogy but thought the prequel trilogy was a great big steaming pile of rubbish. I'm not sure if I'll bother with the new lot of Star Wars films.
