I was lucky enough to witness a bit of history today at Murrayfield as Scotland annihilated Australia. I've never seen us play such confident flowing rugby and have to admit my scepticism about Gregor Townsend was totally unfair.

We look a force to be reckoned with and I think the Six Nations could be a cracker. Be a totally different style of play of course but I can see us doing very well.

I watched it on telly and can't really decide what I witnessed yet, Scotland playing well, Australia playing badly, both, neither, good game, bad game, it's one of those games that might take time to sink in. That said, they played much better against New Zealand than Wales did today, so you might be on to something.

Were you shooting alcopops all afternoon? I can understand sitting on the fence if was just average, but that was top drawer quality.

Only saw brief highlights but how much of a factor was Australia being a man down for the second half?

Great game. Both teams were playing expansive rugby and Australia were still a very dangerous proposition despite being a man down; it wasn't until around the 70th minute that they looked truly beaten.

The Aussies were 10-12 in front when Kepu was sent off; then Scotland went ahead 17-12 immediately after the sending off, that was the half time score. So a fairly big factor!

Edit... Cross posted with @AndyRM . I will bow to his better knowledge of the game of rugby :okay:.

No bowing required!

It was a factor, but not as big a one as it often can be.

Scotland looked good even without Hogg. I always like to see a Northern hemisphere side beat a Southern one.

The Six Nations is going to be such an intriguing contest this year. Four great teams amongst the home nations. I'm really not sure what to make of Wales, though. Great at retaining possession and never giving up, but still mono-dimensional, perhaps. Scotland are resurgent, and whilst you always worry about thin resources with them, they were playing yesterday without 3 or 4 first choice players through injury.

Why in hell do we have to wait for so long for England to play New Zealand? It's almost like the rugby powers-that-be have conspired to deprive the world of the one match that everyone wants to see.
