What rear wheel is in there at present? What sort of hub?

Remove the screw on 5 speed freewheelhub, screw on single speed freewheel. (or do it properly and screw on a fixed sprocket)

. . . or just shorten the chain and use whichever cog on the existing freewheel suits the gear ratio you are after (and doesn't have a too extreme chain line) (Assuming the frame has horizontal dropouts to tension the chain). Doesn't look brilliant but costs nothing.
