I'm yet to test the classification on a toll road etc..

It should be 'as presented' under con and use 1984. Ie, if it has 5 seats treat it like a car, a full conversion treat it like a camper, etc.

The category is a different matter assigned by the DVLA purely for taxation and licencing purposes. The DVLA does not determine speed limits or of vehicle type - parliament sets these mpby means of legislation, namely the road traffic act and con and use regs.

For example, the DVLA have my van as N1 commercial vehicle category, but besause it is as presented with a full camper conversion it has a class 4 mot like a car and car speed limits apply.

Of course what some untrained minimum wage PEON in a toll both thinks is a different matter entirely,

Don't know if it's a consideration in your area, but our local recycling centre, does not accept commercial vehicles (vans), without a special licence.

Or a Octavia -golf sized but just a little bigger and about the same price as a fabia.

It's a diesel. It will easily do 200K+

Yes......one of my biggest motoring errors was to px my beautiful Rover 75 diesel auto simply because it had 110K on the clock.
However, I want to give him the best start I can so hoping to get something with maybe 50Kish on it.

Whatever he gets makes sure he empties it of tools overnight.

Those stickers are pointless - "no tools left in this vehicle overnight" translates as "this van is full of tools."

A lot of tradesmen leave vans unlocked overnight so Johnny Scumbag doesnt cause £££s of damage discovering the vehicle is empty.

Tools are unloaded as soon as he gets home.....straight into a (hopefully) secure place.
