Does anyone use Warmshowers?
I thought about hosting cyclists but discovered it costs $ 30 to register.
I don't think I'll bother. Just an idea to help travellers but don't feel like paying for the privilege.

Personally, since I saw Psycho at the cinema I've steered well clear.

Yeah, do you open your home to people, like Airbnb, only for having a wash? 🤔

EDIT: Just looked it up and it seems like Airbnb, but for cyclists. I think.

Except it's not a business for the hosts, so no charge to those wanting a stay.

Not only do i use Warm Showers I am also a host. We are hosting a biker right now. It has been a great experience. We are a bit selective over our 25 years of membership of who we host. We want tourists who want to share their experiences and not not simply looking for just a place to sleep. We have been able to meet some interesting and simply friendly people who share their experiences. And we always provide dinner and breakfast. We have also received dinner and breakfast from our hosts. I think you would be missing a great life experience by not being a part of WS.

The $30 to join is only paid by guests not people who only want to host.

I'd like to offer free lodging but object to paying to do so.

In the space of a few words of text they refer to the $30 as a fee and then as a donation. Whatever it is, you can't register without paying it.

Two of my daughters, who have used Warmshowers a lot when touring (mostly in the US), registered us (my wife and I). We've had only a few visitors, but they have always been incredibly rewarding. Interesting people doing interesting things.

Last lot was a young French family, mum dad and three youngsters cycling from Marseille, across to Morocco, into Spain, England, France, Belgium, Netherlands Germany Denmark and Norway. (I think they quit in north Denmark, kids were missing their friends). They were shocked at our Devon hills and arrived exhausted. We had a delightful evening with them, my wife cooked a big meal (kids were ravenous, couldn't believe how much they ate). They expected to camp on our lawn but we found beds for them all and breakfast in the morning. A fabulous human experience.
