Yes, you either need to pull to the curb and slow down, or stay rather further out, depending on your speed and how much traffic is following. Pulling in is fine, but then it does mean negotiating out again, and the distance between pulling in and having to negotiate out is not very far, which is why I'd probably stay out.

If Iwas staying out, I think I'd use a fear wobble to discourage drivers from coming near me.

I've wobbles before and had some success, but I'm not sure that it would have worked in this instance. He also caught me a little off guard as I really didn't expect him to go. Although I could have been a bit further out, he did have to cross the line almost into the path of another vehicle, so he probably had an inch or two either side to spare.

Google 'Metbrief'......pick aviation and this gives you access aeronautical forecasts. The Metar is the actual weather and the Taf is the forecast. It's all in a code form. I think there's a page that explains it all but if not get in touch and I can explain.

For you Magnatom if you pick the Met for Glasgow it gives you hourly reports for the prvious 24hrs pertinent to the Glasgow aerodrome.. Towards the end there is a figure like M02/M02. This is the temperature, the M signifies below freezing and the dew point. A bit geeky but I hope this helps. Once you get a hang of the way it's written down very handy as the forecasts tend to be pretty accurate.

I dislike pinch points obviously but as I have been cycle commuting the same route for almost 20 years I tend to "Know the Road" (at least I hope so) also a term train drivers use,which means you tend to know the hazards and other unique characteristics about the route.

Concentration is also another big thing,being if you let it drift is when you can get caught out.Always expect the unexpected.

I've just had another look at the video and you can hear the car on the opposite side of the road hitting it's horn at him. He didn't have much space on either side! What a complete numpty!!

Someone did the same to me about 2 years back, he overtook me with about an inch to spare but swung out in such a way that he nearly went face on into a toyota 4x4 coming the otherway. He had 3 mates in there too and one stuck two fingers out the window at a PCSo walking on the pavement someway on.

I was doing about 30 as it was a slight downhill and there was only those other two cars there at the time. My opinion was that particular driver did that for kicks.

Yours however, was a prat (in the true and original sense of the word )

Niall this is why i use and also recommend "weather underground" there's nothing to work out it's pretty straight forward all you need to do is put in your city then pick the weather station closest to you and normally there is one within 5 miles of your location and because it is local and not regional this makes it quite accurate.

You can also check back any given day in the last 12 months and see what the conditions where.

There are bus lanes, and cycle lanes, and other lanes. Other lanes are for all road users, why would you think they are only for cars?

Niall this is why i use and also recommend "weather underground" there's nothing to work out it's pretty straight forward all you need to do is put in your city then pick the weather station closest to you and normally there is one within 5 miles of your location and because it is local and not regional this makes it quite accurate.

You can also check back any given day in the last 12 months and see what the conditions where.

Had a look. Pretty good. Noted that it has the aviation Metar as well so the best of noth worlds.
