Here for rides.
I would love to get an honest opinion from the navy top dogs how they feel about how about all the government's cuts in the last 10 or so years. I don't think the answer would be family-friendly.
Which is part of what I am getting at, what is the point of a surface fleet of a Navy so small and under-equipped as ours now is?

My tuppenceworth? I think we were/are moving towards a unified EU armed forces. The RN would lead with the high value, high ticket items like the carriers, Type 45s, SSNs and SSBNs whilst the Germans, Dutch, Danes etc chipped in with the workhorse frigates and corvettes, which predominate in their navies.

Is it an ocean going canoe?
Whilst Dreadnought in proportion and handling alas it is for calm inshore waters only. More home fleet than task-force material.

There again, I may just use it for fishing unless specifically requisitioned by the Navy.

You think the Admiralty know and understand everything they are doing? ;)
An ex-submarine artificer I sailed with reckoned he gave up during an inspection by an Admiral trying to gently correct that a nuke boat is steam powered and just agreed with whatever he thought.
Think the Navy has more Admirals than vessels now.
