I didn't really watch the funeral, was out and about for the morning, but got to my Mums (who was watching) just as the big show was ending.
Mum told me that going in one of the pall bearers had got a right dab on, then I noticed that coming out it certainly did seem to be more effort than it should've been carrying a frail old dead lady about.
Wondered if her coffin was lead lined or something.

Its her ego, it weighs a ton, even now!

Seriously though, I watched it and I think they were just going really slow because it was all timed. The guy who was really sweating though, I was waiting for him to faint, that would have been worth seeing!.

HOWEVER, if you really have nothing else to do, watch it sped up, as it shows that right sour faced bald bloke who was walking in front of the coffin, waddling about somewhat comically!

Time rich at the moment?

These coffins are heavy as they are lead lined and are also of heavy wood as well.

Having done this whilst serving in the Navy it is a difficult and tiring task

Maggies coffin was not lead lined as she was cremated at Mortlake crematorium. The toxins of lead would make this illigal and damage the cremator.
Lead is not even used these days for repatriation it is zinc.
The pallbearers numbered eight to represent all parts of the armed forces. Traditionally there is only four pallbearers and director. The greater the number of pallbearers increases the risk of tripping.

swmbo works in the funeral industry and has attended hundreds of funerals.

It was on delay, so I watched bits of it at x2 or x6 speed (any faster and the effect starts to get lost) to catch up, zoom through the hymns, etc.

All strangely amusing!

And yes, I haven't been doing anything much today, gowd, I have even posted on here not once, not twice, but 3 times, today, THREE TIMES!

Coffins are deceptively heavy in my experience. Such a waste of good timber in many ways.

I will never forget carrying my 20 stone uncle in the middle of a heat wave while wearing a black suit:heat:

Slightly OT, but I remember being impressed at a friend's funeral that his 20ish year old daughter insisted that she be one of the coffin bearers, when it is so often men-only.
