Washing balls and eco friendly laundary detergent.

We have been using laundry balls and eco friendly detergent for a few months now, our supply ran out last week. Yesterday I went to the corner shop and got some washing powder and wow what a difference.

All our clothes smell fresh as a daisy and all the stains have gone without a trace. Even our whites have come up sparkling.

Having second thoughts about going back to the environmental friendly stuff now because it wasn't washing our clothes properly.

I can tell you with certainty that your eco friendly product doesn't contain the same ingredients that mega-giants like Unilever, Colgate, P&G and Henkel have spent decades and billions of pounds perfecting. Also their perfumes are fantastic - they contain some ingredients that are so costly and substantive on fabric that they would not be out of place in an eau de toilette. Much of the backnote is synthetic musk, which sticks to a textile or your skin like... well, like poo to a blanket.

What would you recommend then RR that gets clothes clean? You'd need a lot of heavy footed elephants to get my husband's work clothes clean, and even that when washed, they still look dirty. Well at least I know they've been washed!

I thought they had to conform to certain standards re environment nowadays?

I did always use Ecover at one time, then because of the work clothes issue, went back to ordinary stuff.

I have tried several types of eco stuff, it took me twice as long to do the washing because I had to use a separate stain remover.

Also noticed that it wasn't washing the towels properly. Its like RR said, the big company's have worked on this stuff for years and developed a product that works much better unfortunately.

As for eco-washing, we use ecover laundry liquid, with the occasional addition of a stain remover if theres a mark that'll clearly not come out. At low temperature, the only things that don't always come properly clean are curry stains.

Same here. I've tended to use Ecover for cycling kit as it's more gentle than YeBogStandardLaundryStuff, but when it comes to serious dirt, it required several wash cycles to get an item clean, which sort of defeated the object of being more environmentally friendly

Soap Nuts - They come with a little bag too

Smell a bit like vinegar, create a nice lather in the machine - but not a very convincing wash (IMO)

Could you not use the eco stuff for a few washes, and then blitz it with the less eco? Like how you are meant to run a hot wash everyso often to clean out the washing machine...
