Washing Lego

Sometimes I look on Ebay for Lego and often the ad claims the Lego is washed.

What's the best/easiest way to wash and dry a huge loose pile of Lego that is seriously grimy and thick with sticky dust?

I'm not selling any but thinking of cleaning up what I have that has been sitting in trays uncovered in a building site.

Washing machine inside a cloth bag. Or drop into sink with washing up liquid !

Stuff them in an old pillow case, low temp wash in the washing machine (remember no comfort softener)

Yeah, you need a bag, or something like it, a pillowcase tied up tight with string or something. Like we ladies sometimes use to put our delicate flimsy items in to wash them.

Actually if it's very dusty, it might be worth hand washing in a bowl first, in case the dust just clogs the inside of the bag and ends up drying back onto the Lego. An old sieve might be good to rinse it in, in batches.

Doesn't sound promising does it.
Fortunately my Lego is covered in grimy dust rather then packed mud so shouldn't be so bad.

I will try the washing machine/dishwasher options I think.

It seems silly to have a few grands worth of Lego technic and not play do something practical with it.

single or double ?? reminds me i still haven't washed the few grands worth of lego acquired over my formative years that has been sat under my desk at home for over 18 months.

there is a huge lego community online as well. have had some success in tracking down building instructions for some of the more obscure models i had.

I'm trying to figure out the best way for cleaning some made up models that I don't want to dismantle. They are full of motors and pnumatics so I don't want to immerse them.
