We, Mrs C and I, have had a clear out, old coats, trousers, shirts, skirts, blouses etc. Serviceable stuff that we no longer use.
Well rather than throw the lot out, Mrs C found a charity bag left for collection. The blurb on the bag promising to put the world to rights if we would only let them take our unwanted items. Fairynuff.
Being a suspicious so and so I looked up the company who do the collecting on-line, just to check they are legit. It seems they are but the site is a little sketchy on how the money is spent with just a couple of charities listed, one of which seems to be a local charity in South Wales.
There is a statement '
Our services are totally free and we return to our charities 70% of the income derived from the sale of goods donated by you.

At a quick glance it sounds reasonable. reading it a couple of time over I'm not so sure.

Am I better off dropping the stuff in with Oxfam or the RSPCA shop, or maybe stuffing it into the container ( for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance) next to the glass recycling things?

If you can get it to a charity shop or collection skip, that's better, because they'll get all the benefit. Even stuff that's not saleable, they'll have an arrangement to sell as rag.

Some of those random clothing collections companies will sell the stuff in flea markets abroad, making a small donation to charity here.
If you don't mind this, go ahead

I am not sure...............a unit across from me is in this game. All day, every day, non English speaking immigrants sort and separate material/textiles, clothing from "charity" bags. Every Friday a large HGV collects it, at the same time the bosses turn up........ in Porches, to oversee the collection.

I only fill bags left by big name charities. The other collection services exist primarily to make someone very rich and charities marginally better off.

Yup same here. Charities that are easily checked out online or by phone.

Literally from rags to riches.

Charity shop, or the above option you mention. Hope I never need it, but cycling whilst there are some 'drivers of a poor standard' on the road a cyclist may need the services of the air ambulance

Sadly, quite a few collection firms run a scam leaving bags printed up to have the name of a big charity, but in reality, nothing goes to them. Best to always take to a charity shop. As mentioned above, even if some of the clothes are no good for sale in the shop, the charity still gets some money by selling them on as rags.

Here's a recent load of 16 bags I took to the BHF shop:-

How about taking it to one of those places that have recently sprung up that buy old clothes, they pay something like 50p a kilo.
