shouldn't they have a registered charity number? i would say drop it off at a shop or phone air ambulance and ask if they want it.

My Mrs used to work for Marie Curie in the warehouse. The bags would be dropped of in various areas around the north west on say a monday then they would go and collect from that area on weds or thurs and so it would go on through the week. Everything that came in would have a value. Good clean clothes would goto the shops anything that was below standard or soiled in any way would go to rags which would then be sold. Everything had a value either through the shop or though the warehouse to external recycling etc!! So my view would be to give it direct to a shop of your choice or if its a significant amount give them a ring and they might arrange a van to come out to you.

The BBC ran a report on watchdog about a company that used counterfeit bags from a cancer charity and just stole all the donated goods.

There was a piece on a BBC programme recently about fake charity bags. In just one lorry coming across the channel, they found something like 850,000 bags pretending to be from the British Heart Foundation. They used all the correct logos and charity number etc and could have raked in several million pounds if they'd reached the doorsteps of Britain.

Just google "charity bag fraud" to see the scale of the problem. You can't be sure the bag on your doorstep has been left by the named charity.

It's a massive fraud throughout the country and I never, ever use them. My old rags go direct to a local charity shop.

There are a lot of wages and overheads come out of most charity collections before the remaining gets where it is needed.
