That's really frustrating.
Personally I wouldn't buy a watch without trying it on.
I can't bring myself to buy a new watch though . I have one, a gift from Mr6 some years ago for a birthday. I didn't wear it for years as it was damaged, so he paid to have it repaired a couple of years ago and I promptly broke it again. I can't get a replacement glass for it now which is such a shame but I don't like anythign else as much so I'm watchless.
It's from Fossil if you want a suggestion of somewhere to start looking.

Have you tried titanium? I have a titanium Seiko which is smart, un-ostentatious and lightweight.

I'm having some difficulties regarding watch buying. I have that nickel allergy thing going on so I cant have a bracelet watch it has to be a strap or a plastic one.I'm having to hunt round for something suitable and easy on the eye.
So I see a nice watch online and order it and its too small for my wrist, its returned and I get a refund. I order another one from a different online shop and theres none in stock. So I find a different model and it arrived with scratch across the face so thats returned as well.
I try again with another retailer and I stayed in all morning waiting for its arrival. I opened the box, and its not the one I ordered! so thats also on its way back
I think the moral of the story is to buy from a high street shop not online regarding watches.

I have half a dozen G shocks kicking around and bought them all online and they were all ok. Watch Hut and Watch Shop were the suppliers.

Cheap leather strap now fitted  . I think mine is about 5 years old now?
Yeah, I think I'm going to have to do the same. I always used those straps as a safety feature but I opened the strap in a meeting one day and was almost immediately sick.xx(:shy:
