1. Southsea is lovely - just a walk along the front by the historic part (Old Portsmouth) You'll see lots of ships in and out.
2. Go down to "The Hard" and see HMS warrior (no need to pay to go into museum unless you want to, you can also see MS Victory
3. Naval Museum in Southsea is OK
4. Shops at Gunwharf keys are OK but BUSY!! Some OK bars along the front.
5. Theres a D Day museum in Southsea too, its good.

I grew up and studied in Pompey!

This. The family Bollo often take a trip down to Pompey of a Sunday to promenade along Southsea Common followed by lunch at Gunwharf.
Get out of Waterlooville as fast as you can .
And most definitely this!!!

On or off the bikes?

We'll have his race bike and track bike so there won't be room for any more unfortunately. I'd have liked to.

@User13710 , @Rooster1 and @Bollo - we're actually staying in Rowlands Castle, which I hope is a bit better than Waterlooville

And thanks everyone for your suggestions. The docks it is then ...

Near Rowlands Castle is the wonderful St Huberts Church at Idsworth.

Park in Finchdean by the George and it is abut a 20 minute walk to the church

On a summer afternoon in the good weather (we are supposed to have) it is a special place

The George is also as good a place to eat as any around Rowlands Castle
