Realistically I'm only going to be riding in the rain on Saturday club rides, when I go solo I try whenever possible to only ride in the dry!
The club rides are slow paced but tend to be hilly - 1000ft per 10miles which in my book is hilly so even when on an easy ride, climbing is still hard so getting sweaty in a rain jacket is likely.
The Galibier is very competitvely priced so for the amount of use it would get that appears so far to be the one to get. Spending £250+ on the latest and greatest seems a bit excessive for my needs.

If you do decide to spend £200+ I can highly recommend this jacket. I used to l
look like the Michelin Man in all my winter layers. Today I ride in this jacket plus a base layer. I have three different base layers which I choose from based on temperature.

Shakedry were discontinued a couple of years ago due to enviromental concerns apparently.

You can still get them.

After years of long distance riding in all weathers. Here is my take.

You can wear a trawlermans fishing suit and the rain will not get in from the outside. But you will sweat.

The secret is to be warm and damp.

There is only one manufacturer (that I know of) that currently makes a "shakedry" jacket. To clarify this is where the "membrane" is on the OUTSIDE of the jacket, not sandwiched between layers and protected by a DWR (water repellant) coating. These jackets do not wet-out as the rain water remains on the outside and they do not need a DWR coating.
