Mudguards don't stop the stuff that comes from the sky.
which is very minimal in comparison to what will come off your tyres.
I haven't worn overshoes or waterproof trousers in quite some time, yet when riding in any form of rainfall, even heavy rain, i don't get water in my shoes.

I've got full length mudguards Gaz, and they're the SKS Longboard variety too so yes, wheel spray is significantly reduced. However, as pointed out above, they do nothing to stop you getting wet from failing rain, or as was the case the other day, horizontal super-rain.... Oh, and those mudguards also did nothing to prevent the pure comedy moment that was an artic going through a huge puddle and drowning me in a wave of spray as I cycled along the designated cycle path (pavement, running against the flow of traffic). I laughed, really I did.

First time i've seen those longboard, they look like they offer some awesome coverage.
If your waterproof overshoes are snug on the ankle, very little water should get in. Apart from of course when you get splashed by a huge vehicle, which has happened to me a handful of times. I personally don't see that being a reason to wear boil in the bag trousers.
