Bought a pair of waterproof socks a couple of weeks back. Wore 'em for the first time today. Oh my life what a god send. Was drenched from head to toe after 13 miles in persistent rain and spray. Socks were soaking wet on the outside but feet were bone dry. Warm feet, or more to the point, not cold feet really does make all the difference between a miserable commute or not.

I suffered badly from this problem this morning. Just wondering would you still need a change of sock, say if you were going to put on other shoes or work boots ect?

Most definitely. They're still soaking on the outside and would be very uncomfortable to slip them into a pair of work shoes. We have good facilities where i work; showers, changing rooms etc. and i keep a full set of work clothes in the changing rooms so i've always got a complete change of clothes when i arrive. There's a drying room as well so all the wet cycling gear is pretty much dry by home time.

Used them in the old flat as the boiler didn't work one winter and they were great at night for keeping my feet warm but I don't use them on the bike.

How do these Sealakinz socks work? Do they have a waterproof inner lining?
As Ian says, waterproof. And I discovered while hand washing them that when you wring them out they're air and watertight if they're not inside out. Actually, I think it's the watertightness that left me always riding with slightly damp, just-over-the-edge cold and clammy feet last winter - unpleasant but not painful. I'll try them with thin socks underneath to see if they work as a liner, soaking up that clamminess.

You wait till the water finds its way inside - it can't get out again, and you'll get freezing trench foot, DAHIKT
Absolutely right! The rain seeps through your bib longs, runs down your legs, and stacks up at the cuff at the top of your SealSkinz socks. It's only a matter of time before it finds its way inside. After that, you are condemned to a what seems a lifetime of squelching. If you stop moving, the water gets cold too....Oh misery....

I used to be a fan, but if you don't use another way to keep dry, they do not stop your footwear honking like hell after a few days getting wet.
