I brought some nikwax when it was on special this year and had just waterproofed m winter kit - its beading nicely.

I used the tech wash, and softshell spray as its on a gore jacket. As I applied the softshell spray I thought it smelled of that white PVA wood glue. Its probably not, but it did get me wondering if anyone has cheapo alternatives or any home cooked recipes for waterproofing... if so - lets have `em!

Cover jacket/trousers in that white PVA wood glue. Allow to dry. Job done.

But seriously .....
The preferred method of keeping the troops dry on a pishing wet night shift whilst deployed in the middle of nowhere protecting VIP's in the mid 90's; as used by the then Strathclyde Police ....

I kid you not. Standard issue raincoats were as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

As a motorcyclist who tends to find the odd shower or two :whistle:, I can vouch for Nikwax products. I wouldn't use anything else.
