Thanks. Saw good reviews about this brand whilst researching. Only trouble is I have a long body and quite broad chest/shoulders so it's important to be able to try things on before I buy. Is there a UK shop that you know of?

I got mine in Oban many years ago so I'm afraid I have no idea about a current UK stockist. If you see one though, get involved, they're great.

Check out Driza Bone.

I've had one of their jackets for years and the quality is unreal.

i got one of their waxed 'duster' coats in the 90s, has a definite columbine vibe, it's still going strong, though it needs a re-wax

Saw Hoggs and decided that the prices were so low that the quality must be questionable. Thanks for all the info everybody. Love the Harrington Accy. I had a green one back in the day. Didn't look as cool as you though!

Their stuff is good value in my experience.
For example their country-shoes. Whilst they stock fewer UK models now but some of their shoes are marked "made in England" and are made by top notch Northampton makers at very low prices. I have had a few of these over the years

I’ve just thought of another seller. Ryedale clothing which is part of Yorkshire trading. I’ve no idea of the quality but it’s cheap.

On the subject of lower cost wax jackets, I bought one from Walker and Hawkes which wouldn't keep water out no matter how much wax I plastered on it.

Another option is John Partridge, easily as good as top end Barbour stuff, but as they're not as much of a name they can be picked up cheap secondhand on ebay and Vinted.

Secondhand in general is sometimes a good option as people seem to buy one, then once it needs rewaxing the novelty wears off and it ends up in a cupboard no longer being used.

Looking for a wax jacket that will be used mostly for dog walking, a bit of f!y fishing, and general day to day wear, trips to the pub etc. Used to have a Barbour International Duke which fit the bill but I found the quality to be not all that (probably because it's the fashion arm rather than serious field stuff). Anyway it got nicked so I'm looking to rep!ace it with a Barbour Corbridge which is a similar style but hopefully a bit more robust. Have found one for £189.

Anybody got any ideas for an alternative or where to get one even cheaper?

Update. I've bought the above in black. Tried several different varieties of Barbour at various price points as well as a number of budget offerings. £189 was a decent saving from the rrp and whilst it's still a bit pricier than some of the other options, it's got the kudos and the back up service of the Barbour brand and if I get 10 or 15 years out of it then it's more than worth it.
