LOL.

I found in Asia, although the roads are manic...and obviously much more dangerous than here, in general people are a lot more forgiving and try to avoid accidents (while still overtaking a left turning lorry on the inside). In Vietnam I was on the back of a guy's motorbike, someone cut him up. He just stopped, mumbled to himself and got on with it. If someone did that here, all hell would have to be paid.

Yikes. You'd be happy just to get to work and back alive each day in that sort of traffic

i was in vietnam last year, when i got to saigon/HCMC, i literally had to learn how to cross a road all over again! it's insane - best advice - look purposeful and directly at the multitude of people you're about to have an imminent collision with and they generally swerve you

When I first visited Marakech I noticed no lines on the roads, everyone honking their horns at each other constantly, and no pedestrian crossings. This is mental I thought.

Then realised the honking is just used as general communication. Peep hello peep thanks peep go on through peep etc. If you want to cross the road - just walk into the road - people will stop without complaint. No one seems to drive faster than about 15-20mph.

Parisian drivers, whilst all mental, DO seem to be pretty considerate towards cyclists. Parisian scooter riders on the other hand like riding fast down pavements beeping at pedestrians to get out of the way.

exactly like HCMC, easily the noisiest city i've ever visited - a fantastic city nonetheless - it took me a good hour of watching people before i understood the whole 'walk out in the road, look at those coming at you and they will avoid you' thing...it's quite intimidating but it works

Never been to Asia, but have visited Sicily where using a road crossing is exactly the opposite. If you look at the drivers they don't stop. You have to step into the road without making eye contact for the traffic to give way. It's rather sphincter-twitching the first few times.

Reminds me of Bangkok - there they have those traffic light countdown timers, particularly in the Sukhumvit area. When that timer hits zero, they floor it en-masse! If you happen to be crossing the road at the time ... good luck!
