Had that "argument" with someone at the end of last week. Along with "They should be made sit a test, before they're even allowed to buy a bike", "I pay Road Tax, they don't" & a few others that we"ll all have heard at one time or another.

However for me it falls flat on it's face when it comes to moped &, to a lesser extent, motorcyclists. Neither of these groups appear to get anywhere near the same amount of abuse as cyclists however I regularly see pavement riding, aggressive filtering & red light jumping from moped & motor cyclists. Also often mopeds seem unable to keep up with the flow of traffic in general. They're not obeying the same rule set as car drivers (which let face it is what people really mean by motorists) but they don't get the same attention as cyclists.

I reckon scooter riders get a similar amount of dislike, except they are rarely still there to receive any abuse directly (it's relatively easy outside of serious traffic for a car to catch up with a cyclist and hurl some abuse at them.) Also they inhabit a very specific niche (mostly 17-20 year old males that are tearing about) and very quickly move on to a Corsa or similar when they get the money. Finally, I think it might be a perception thing, but I see far fewer scooters red light jumping or pavement riding than cyclists. Sufficiently less that it's a point of note rather than an expected thing (which unfortunately it's starting to become with other bikes on my daily commute).
Dunno. The old cyclists in the triangle sign that someone from here did years ago went down really well. It would be good if someone creative could. Come up with something, but. I'm not creative.
