The child I'm spending Wednesday with breaks out in hives after the slightest ingestion of pineapple.

Heading smogwards today. DD1 has somehow found a gap in her busy post exam, job free summer holiday schedule to join me. Undoubtedly I'll be having my musical horizons 'expanded' en route.

Coffee and sunshine currently in abundance.

There's no obligation. I mean, apart from myself, I don't think anyone on here/BR met him face to face bar myself but I was asked by his daughter to pass the funeral information on.

Just a quick summary of his life and from when he moved back to Scotland, just as a window, a face behind another keyboard warrior.

Mike worked as a representative for a major brewing company for a number of years. Later in life, he jumped off the corporate Hamster wheel and started his own gardening business. This eventually lead to working in the gardens of a stately home in Oxfordshire.
Mike then moved to Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway where he settled in quickly as a volunteer gardener at Threave Gardens (of Threave Castle), became treasurer of the local cycle club and did some officiating at the Scottish National Cyclocross series
Mike bought a bungalow in disrepair but had started the renovation, installed solar panels, insulation and it was coming on fine until he was hit by septicaemia in August '24 where he was in an induced coma for almost 9 weeks.
He was diagnosed with MND in August last year. Doctor's couldn't work out why he wasn't recovering as quick as expected from the septicaemia.

Mike was an amiable giant leaving 2 daughters and a grand daughter behind.

Sounds like quite a fella! Horrible way to bow out though.

Thanks Pinno. It's weird how one can end up caring about what happens to people you've never met on a random cycling forum. I'm not going to search back through Loon's few posts on here, especially his last one, but the abruptness of his realising his health was going wrong was quite a shock. I made a donation to MND in his memory and left a message, but please do pass on my condolences.

I get my own back by insisting on having the 'Absolute 80's' station playing in the car for at least part of the trip. I find it encourages her to use her own car whenever she can.
