Weekend Commutes

Any body else do these?
Especially during the very early hours.Had an incident with two lunatic motons racing each other yesterday.Today it was a moton pulling out from a left hand turn in front of me to save two seconds.Same moton then proceeds to left hook me when I catch him up at the lights. Then he is surprised when he gets a blast of the horn.I get to Bow Road tube and the road is cordoned of due to some moton crashing their car. It's Saturday night/Sunday morning so why am I surprised anymore?
So after talking to the copper I am diverted round the back streets of Bow.At least I know where Bow bus garage is now.

yep me
12 hr shifts at weekends I do find some drivers act worse when there is less traffic on road but also find that peds especially drunken ones are pretty bad on a sunday morning after a night out. the bonus is that there is less traffic on the roads so chances of an incident are reduced.

I get the distinct impression that a lot of boy racing and joy riding goes on over the weekend wee hours

It's a fact that anyone that pulls out in front of you in a desperate fashion will will be making a dangerous left or right hand turn into a side road immediatelt afterwards

Yes, 06:45 commute for me today.

There is very occasionally the odd boy racer, but all in all I much prefer the quiet (almost dead) traffic levels

Fairly regular weekend rides with my shift pattern. Saturday isn't much different from weekdays, maybe a few less trucks on the A47. Sunday's vary from quiet to post-apocalyptic in my part of the Fens and thus are very nice
I wish this dreary, drizzly weather would chuff off though, it's depressing to ride through

Yes I work Sundays (i.e today). I love my Sunday commutes, I can fly in with very little traffic (Glasgow doesn't wake up until 11am at the earliest on a Sunday!).

Today I took my alternative back road rural route. Met one car on that part of the commute. Smashin'.

Yep, usually work Saturdays but this week its a Sunday...always commute by bike unless there's a reason to need the car later.
This morning (6am) was quiet, not many cars around in Peterborough.

Was very quiet out there this morning 4.45am. Took a couple of short cuts that I usually avoid due to traffic/legal restraints.
Do miss the chance to ride on nearly deserted roads in the week, but don't miss getting up at 4.15am:ohmy:

Aye on the boy racers and number two...yes if a moton does something dodgy then there is no reason to not believe he/she will drive like an ar53 again.

Eurodix over at Woodston...fruit packers.
Coming from Crowland, its a shame our paths are unlikely to cross, i dont often venture over the east side of town.

Thats a fairly busy ride if you're commuting on the roads i know..Crowland to Eye perhaps ? Not very wide roads and fairly fast traffic. I'd guess once you're in Eye its a cinch.

I go for the wuss/sensible option (depending upon your point of view) as Mrs Browser has forbidden me to use the A1073, due to it being as you described. So my route inis Crowland-to-Thorney, a short stretch of the A47 to Willow Hall Lane, the Willow Hall Lane to Pearces Road to Storeys Bar Road and Bobs yer wotsit! I did try sneaking along the 1073 a few times but was spotted by a friend of my wifes, who told her (cheers!) and she gave me a rollocking. It's 11.6 miles as opposed to 8.5 so it isn't exactly arduous, it's just a pain 'cos she isn't a very confident cyclist and so sees any traffic as one step up from certain death.
That would be Eurodix on Morley Way, yes? I'd imagine there are a plethora of motons to try and avoid in that neck of the woods!

They are certainly a different flavour to the weekday rides! Crazy drivers indeed. The most exciting/scary one I had yet was a 60mph Merc in Bromley in a 30 zone).

T'would be yes...
I've said it before, i really find Peterborough drivers quite cycling friendly. Of course you get the odd incident, usually someone passing too close, but even then its not even every week it happens. i do a lot of commuting at rush hour and rarely have problems.
I can ride aggressively mind  and dont mind mixing it with traffic in town.
I think i'd be more wary about cycling the 1073 than in town, towns no problem, so perhaps i can understand your wifes concerns.
Anyway...i'd go for the longer safer option, just to get the extra mileage in.

The motons moan about cyclists all the time but I think the cops need to get a grip. There is so much poor driving out there it's unbelieveable.

I try and be reasonable but these people get on my tits...That incident at the pinchpoint yesterday these people knew exactly what they were doing.

I have to be thankful I guess that I managed to keep out of the way of two speeding cars and it wasn't actually the worst overtake I have suffered and they made an effort to avoid me.
