We're planning a short trip out to Bruges this summer.

Basically taking the bikes on the Hull-Zeebruge ferry, then riding down to Bruges and spending a weekend eating/drinking and strolling about.

Can anyone recommend a decent cycle friendly hotel in Bruges?

The St Christpher hostel, has plenty of indoor bike storage (they have their own rental fleet). I dunno if that qualifies as a hotel...they do have private rooms as well as dorms.

also to add that in many years of touring in Europe (france and Spain mainly) I have never once had a cycling unfriendly hotel. Am sure Flanders is as good if not better

I've stayed at Hotel Malleberg before, not sure if it's bike friendly but the staff are brilliant and it's a great wee hotel. Worth checking out.

Have stayed here (and hired bikes from them). Take earplugs - it's bloody noisy. Or maybe I'm a grumpy old git!

Now you mention it, we had a clean room and the food was good, but it was a bit of a riot house. The bar busy till the early hours, by which I mean 4-5am.

Check out the De Struise bar/shop. Great beer, although being in Brugge, the prices are a bit sharp.

In't nieuw Museum is a great restaurant. Recommended to us by some locals, the indoor barbecue is to die for!

No specific recommendation, but the cycling culture is so deeply embedded that I can not imagine too many problems. Pick the hotel you like, then give them a call (everyone in the hospitality business in Bruges speaks English) and I guess they will have some sort of bike provision. Have a great weekend and make sure you pootle out to Damme along the canals. Oh and beware the Westmalle trapist tripel!

I know this isn't what you asked for, but there's an absolutely amazing pub which is incredibly hard to find without knowing it's there.

In this link http://goo.gl/maps/mmxxs if you look at the reddish brown shopfront, the right doorway, is an alleyway which leads down to a small door into the pub. It's very welcoming once inside and has a huge selection of beers including a very strong house beer.
