Weight loss

Have you tried supplimenting this with strength training (weights, etc)? This should burn the fat. How do I know, I don't I hope since I want to lose weight healthily too.

I have actually gained about 1/2 stone, I wasn't that heavy when I started.. only 11 stone but I have seen a big increase in leg muscle.
I find I eat more healthily (A tend to eat alot more fruit, especially Bananas) and drink alot more water throughout the day. When I ride in I target other riders and get passed them so it pushes me each day, I also started out 5 miles in 22 minutes and it's now down to 17 minutes on average. I again try and get this time down a little each day.

1kg of fat is around 7700 kcals - so you would need to have a deficit of 3500 kcals for every pound you want to drop. cycling for 10 minutes is around 80 - 100 kcals so you are talking about quite a hefty amount of cycling to drop that amount of weight just from cycling alone - unless you really up the intesity using speed work, tempo, climbing work etc.

the body will plateau as your basal metabolic rate gets used to its new parameters, so its vital that you change things every four weeks to keep the body guessing just to keep burning calories at an effective rate

If you are over 30 then you really have to hit the weights as you are losing muscle (and calorie burn efficiency) every year - if you want to beat the bulge then a combination of anaerobic cardio (burpees, wall climbing, sprints), strength training (cleans, bench, kettlebells) and aerobic cardio (cycling, running, boxing) will do the trick .....

but it takes real dedication and real focus - i go up and down because my focus is not there and life can get in the way - but i've dropped 5kg from Feb and gone from 25% body fat to 18% - and i'm a 34 year old asthmatic!!

or take up an event challenge - i'm doing the loch ness marathon in a week and a half - it totally gets you focussed!!

i was in the same boat. I slimmed from 105 to 90-92 kg using a diet (WW) and exercise. I then plateau'd. I was convinced I could not get lower. Finally I HTFU'd and controlled my calories, and bingo, down to 83. Currently 86 and hoping to get lower again

I have been commuting now 3 months, and since starting have gone from 15st 12 to 14st 1.

Last week I lost 3 pounds. This week I will be under 14.

On the days when I cycle to work , I have no appetite. I eat nothing before I go, Aplen at my desk for breakfast, 2 chicken legs from M&S and 1 pitta bread for lunch, total of 850 calories. No snacks either. The odd birthday cake if someone in the office has one.

Cycle to and from work, is 17 each way and always under an hour. I estimate I am burning a lot more than what I put in, during the week.

When I get home from cycling, I have no appetite at all, and usually drink a couple of cups of coffee and eat some crackers, a biscuit if I am lucky.

I get up in the morning and the cycle continues.

On the days I don't cycle, Sat and Sun, I am starving but don't go mad, but eat sensibly.

The weight loss has been remarkable, but I am beginning to realise that if I do not start to eat more I am going to get very skinny !
