Hey all, hopefully this is the right forum to post this in!

Firstly, I want to apologise for being so quiet, I'm sure some of you just wait for the day when you see that I've written another long, interesting and funny post about my latest cycling experience! I'm afraid the cold weather and a back injury (inflamed tendons around the left scapula) has put me out of service for a while. Its starting to warm up now however so I am hoping to get back on the pedals soon!

Anyway, this thread...I know I've mentioned before that I've been tackling weightloss for a while, part of the reason I took up biking. Anyway, the good news is I've just realised I'm nearly there!

I weighed in last week at 19st 1lb. 1 pound off of being 6 stone lighter than I had been! I have also gone from a 20" neck to a 17" and my trousers are now a 42" waist instead of a 56"! I now have cheekbones, collarbones, ribs, hips...I can even look down and see toes!

My personal target had always been 16 stone. I know its still a little heavy but its not like i'm a small guy in general...6 foot 2, broad shoulders, size 14 feet, 30cm handspan etc. Anyway, I have a mate who's a similar build and he's only 13st and he looks a bit like a strong wind would snap him in half, I dont want that!

My lifestyle has changed dramatically! I eat takeaway maybe once a fortnight (which is generally a "healthy" Chinese - plain boiled rice and something, no prawn crackers, spring rolls or anything like that) instead of 3-4 times a week. I eat more fruit and veg than you can shake a stick at! I dont even like the taste of Coca Cola anymore, and I lived on that stuff before...I'm talking 9 or 10 litres a week! Now I drink water. I look forward to going to the gym 3 times a week and am considering upping to 4 times...I've become good chums with the head trainer and he's even teaching me a bit about it as I'm now considering moving from my IT career into some kind of health-related subject.

Oh and I've agreed to walk up Ben Nevis in 4 months time.

So yeah, anyway, I've only got to loose half of what I have already to get to where I want to be!! I know the hardest road is ahead of me now, each time I loose some it is then harder to loose more but I just wanted to shout a bit about what I've accomplished!

EDIT...I have some before and after pics at home which show quite a difference! Will post them up tonight.

Brilliant work!

When you officially stop trying to lose weight, make sure you officially start trying to maintain it! Set yourself a 3 or 4 pound 'window' around your target weight and take aggressive action if you slip outside that.

It is very easy to get complacent after successful weight loss and let the pounds pile on. You must not think 'no problem - I got it off before, I can do it again'! I can tell you from experience that that way of thinking can lead to rapid weight gain. I have managed to lose 4-5 stone 3 times over the past 25 years and then just sat back and watched it all go on again.

Hopefully, your lifestyle has changed forever and my warning will not be needed but I'm sure that there are others out there like me who do need to be vigilant!
