One of those news stories you have to read twice, because it sounds so odd the first time. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest this guy might have been on something:
Driver Crashed After Bid To Knock Down Cyclist
A Leeds man is in hospital after a car crash that followed two roadside confrontations. The man, from Leeds, is said to have suffered serious injuries when a white Audi A3 went into a field above Pateley Bridge. The incidents began in Blubberhouses between Harrogate and Skipton at 2.30pm on Friday when the Audi appeared to deliberately drive at a woman riding a pedal cycle, a short distance from her husband and daughter. She managed to avoid being hit, but the Audi driver got out and threatened her. A second car, possibly a light coloured Ford Fiesta or similar, stopped and the two drivers spoke to each other.
About 40 minutes later on Greenhow Hill, near Pateley Bridge, a man driving a white Audi stopped and briefly spoke with a workman before stealing a hammer from the worker’s car and threatening him with it.
Ten minutes later the Audi was seen driving fast along the B6265 near Greenhow village. Soon after it left the road and ended up in a field.
The 43-year-old driver was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. PC Andy Macleod of North Yorkshire Police said: “I would like anyone who witnessed the driving of the Audi A3 or who spoke to the driver to call me on 0845 606 0247 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
