I believe that's an orchid, but what type I couldn't tell you.

Looks like it could be an orchid; at least it's zygomorphic which is pretty characteristic of orchids.

My botanist girlfriend says it's an ornamental poppy, and the "eyes" are its anthers and filaments. So there.

The flower, sometimes known as the 'Flower of Fear', is actually an Alonsoa unilabiata. It's endemic to South Africa, especially the Komsberg Wilderness Nature Reserve.

How do I know? Well I found the original photo on this site and wrote and asked what it was.
