I've just been informed that Iceland make a Chicken Tikka Lasagne! Now I've not bought anything out of there since I first had a flat and was skint. I'm not one to say it won't work but it sounds bogging.

Saying that, strawberries, balsamic vinegar and cracked black pepper is something that sounds horrible but is lovely

The chicken thing is gonna be full of cr@p, but prbably tast quite nice... unfortunately the great british public will lap it up. It's no wonder johnny foreigner goes hungry when he visits these shores. The strawberries/vinegar thing is just wrong, I'm afraid. I've tried it... strawbs were meant for sugar/cream.

I don't think balsamic vinegar is called for here. There's a bit of a tendency to shove it on everything lately, with the misconception that posh ingredients necessarily lead to good food. Strawberries do have an affinity with black pepper (as does pineapple), but the menu-speak still gets on my tits. Why is it "cracked"? Why not milled, ground or crushed which is obviously what is really going to happen to it. No one cracks peppercorns.

Oh - it goes without saying that Chicken Tikka Lasagne is disgusting. I got sidetracked.

Have you tried it? I'm willing to believe that for a quid, that particular example is going to be less than haut cuisine (and is it new? I'm sure we sold it in the days when I worked there, or something very like it). But why should it be inherently a bad idea? I thought fusion food was what we did best.

No, I haven't tried it. But then I haven't tried setting fire to my legs, and I'm confident that's a bad idea. And I'm not so sure that fusion food, if that's what this is, is what we do best. I could go on at length about why it's a horrible idea, and the combination of bechamel and cheap curry flavours would certainly come into it, as would the provenance of the chicken, but it's enough to ask WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD anyone would want to make a chicken tikka lasagne. The Brits just don't get pasta, on the whole.
