I wondered if anyone could explain this:
I was at my mates at the weekend helping to dig post holes. We hit the water pipe that comes into the house from the meter in the road. It didn't break, but was bruised and battered (we caught it with a post hole auger). No leaks were identified, so we carried on. 1 minute later, his mum reports that no water is coming out of the kitchen tap. Totally dry. We turned off the main stopcock to the house and checked the water meter in the road - it was totally still. So no water leak between meter and road.
Over the course of the day, the pipe where we hit was still bone dry. And the kitchen tap started to dribble more and more until in the evening it was back to normal.
Could this be a weird coincidence? Or could hitting the pipe somehow have affected flow to one outlet in the house? Every other outlet (toilet, bathroom sink, washing machine etc) was unaffected. We can't work out what's happened
