Water Bottle With Lid/Cap Recommendations

Since getting back on the saddle I'm tending to be doing lots of gravel/towpath/trail riding, and with the current weather and cheapo bottles, finding my water stops all rather gritty!
I've searched with no joy, so seeking recommendations for water bottles that have lids or caps to keep the muck away.

When I first got into serious cycling, I had an aluminium bottle, with an enormous cork. I followed fashion and switched to plastic bottles for years. But recently, I've seen a trend back to aluminium bottles, as they are better for the environment.

Think, my next bottle will be aluminium.

Wasn’t there study about aluminium pans possibly causing dementia. Aluminium bottles might not be too clever unless their anodised.

I've got the add-on caps for my Camelbaks. Back in the day, all bottles had caps as standard.

Have you got mudguards and mud flap?

Not on this one, and TBH it wouldn't help against dust. My Winter bike has all that for when mud is an issue.

PS I haven't any caps, but Camelbak has to be the best option - best normal bottles anyway. I just embrace the dirt and rat piddle.

Can't recommend the Elite bottles at the moment. Once I dropped one of their stainless steel bottles while I tried to put it back into the bottle cage at ca. 23km/h and a height of 70cm and the cap broke off. According to their homepage the matching cap is available only as part of the whole bottle top.
The other day I dropped an Elite Fly 950ml with roughly 500ml water inside in a similar situation and the body of the bottle got a ca. 10cm crack.

And yes, I need to learn not to drop bottles. What I already learned: Two smaller bottles are better than one big bottle to reduce the risk.

You could buy any bottle with lid that fits your cage, even the ones sold in grocery shops.
The do burst eventually, but can be refilled many times before breaking, I did this once, don't remember why.
I can tell you that having the lid won't work: the dirt goes allover the bottle and lid, you handle the bottle to open the lid, some of the dirt on the bottle, especially from the neck area, will get into your mouth
Maybe carry some antibacterial wipes?

I've been using Elite bottles for years and have dropped my fair share as well, haven't broken one yet! Maybe I'm just lucky!

The Elite Fly MTB ones have a cover, separate from the drinking nozzle which looks big enough to keep dirt well away from the nozzle.
