Can you believe i had my bike stolen on saturday afternoon in the middle of town surrounded by shoppers . Anyway was meant to be going to Brittany tomorrow night for a weeks tour , my first fully loaded and camping trip . In my haste on saturday night i bought a bike on ebay which when i picked it up on Sunday afternoon actually turned out to be rather nice , immaculate in fact . It is a Trek 7.5 FX . Better gearing and so much lighter than my Dawes Hybrid . But its blown my budget apart . The bike was £300 , train fare to Winchester £40 and a pannier rack £40 . Scared of going with nothing in reserve in case of an emergency so rang Brittany Ferries who have been great and given me a credit , so its Cornwall for me now which isnt a bad substitute but still peed off ! Heyho ....

Oh, how rotten!

Still, as you say, Cornwall's not bad, and Brittany will still be there another time. Kudos to Britanny Ferries for being cool.

Have a few cream teas for us, won't you?

That's really rotten luck but well done for sorting it out so quickly and a great result from Brittany Ferries. You'll appreciate the better bike on those Cornish hills.

Thankyou Arch and Helen . I should'nt complain , Cornwall is fantastic but as i live in Devon it does'nt feel like im getting away . And ive certainly noticed the difference on the hills already with the new bike .

i know its really hard but try to think of it as a kind of bike karma thing. The person who stole your bike must have really really needed it...... wish them well on it.

I'm not sure us Devon folk should be saying things like this out loud

Sorry to hear about your bike being stolen Jerry and your trip to France being put on the back boiler ... if it was a lack of a bike then i would've lent you my Panorama for the trip but i'm afraid i cant help out with the emergency cash back up

Enjoy cycling around that funny little place over the Tamar

What lock did you use for your bike that was half inched? What lock are you using now? An Abus Granit X Plus I hope.

I've got a Trek 7.5FX albeit one that must be 10 year old now. It makes an excellent frame for touring as very strong.

More likely they just wanted to flog it to Cash Converters.
Wish them well? I'd push them downstairs then stamp on thier fingers.

Hope the trip goes well.

Thanks for the offer Simon , very genourous , and thankyou to everyone else for your kind words . Anyway on a positive note im looking forward to Cornwall now . Should be a good test for me and the bike on those hills . Going to get the train down to Penzance then head south to Lands End and up to St Ives , then along the north coast to Barnstaple . And if ive still got the legs for it take the coast to coast back down to Plymouth . Done the c2c a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it but i think the north to south will be better . Anyway pictures to follow !

Really unlucky with the bike mate, but Cornwall is up there with my fav places, being from Scotland its an effort to go all down that way, i know it wont feel like your France trip but hope you make the most of it and enjoy it.
By the way also love France.
Cheers Kenny.
