Well how did you celebrate this Jubilee lark?

I waited up ages to see national treasure Ken Barlow at the concert and was very disappointed to see some fat bloke had taken his place.

...and a new family have moved in across the road. Yes. They have a BIG 4x4. It's bigger than their 30s semi. What is it about lower-middle class accountant types that they need to buy a 4x4 to "prove" they've made it. He looked at me as I cycled out this morning as though I was a weirdo (I can tell). I hate him already.

Jeeze - a year or two ago you had a pointless and unjustified pop at me about prejudice yet now here you are, pre-judging that poor family on their car and an imagined look. Did it occur to you that having just moved in they might be feeling a little anxious about their new neighbours and may be concerned that you're some kind of hippy good life type who sneers at their lifestyle? Why don't you go over this evening, greet them cordially and bid them welcome, and ask if there's anything you can help them with? You'll find it a lot better being on good terms with them than hating them for all kinds of imagined slights and you never know, they might even turn out to be great people and useful neighbours as well.

Street party on our road... we never really got into it as it seemed stilted and awkward, for some reason that I couldn't identify, so I patiently waited for an opening to talk to people we didn't know, including the organisers. I've lived on the street for 20 years and realised I know around a dozen families to talk to as we don't pop round to each others' houses... it was a bit wierd. Mind you when it was first thought of it soon became clear that certain people wanted to run things on their own and these 'organisers' were full of themselves so it all seemed a bit too 'jolly'... we didn't hang around long.

Next day Mrs A_T and I went for a good bike ride all afternoon in the sunshine... nippy breeze but lovely.

Did the technicals for my Church's screening of the boat race river pagent on the Sunday and the service and carriage drive/fly past on the Tuesday and watched the concert on Monday night with artists from my childhood and youth when singers could actually sing in tune and you could understand the words.

I sat at home in a darkened room, feeling angry towards all Mankind. I jammed my fingers in my ears and shouted LA LA LA LA at the top of my voice, " I want to be miserable".

Or something.

NOT. It was fun to be in London. Other people had fun too.

Peace and Love! Oh yes - best part was cycling to Whitstable and celebrating Davy's birthday. The real prince of tarts hearts. ;):[/quote]

You are so right, you can always tell. A neighbour near us got one of those. Not long before, a DVD had been sent to me and misdelivered to him. When I knocked to ask he had to admit he had opened my package and watched the film! Happily he has now moved to a neighbourhood more suited to his type. My other neighbours are excellent about taking in packages and do not have 4x4s so there is definitely a link there..
