Riding along minding my own business in the snow today I approached a bus stop full of youths sent home from school early because of the weather.

The alarm bells started to ring when they spotted me and immediately stooped down as one to gather snowballs. I decided to take positive action so looked the biggest yoof right in the eyes and suggested he better not throw his snowball at me if he valued his health.

He grinned and said " I respect cyclists, but...."

"cars are a different matter..."

and the whole group absolutely pelted a car which was following on behind me !!!^_^

Probably because he didn't get pelted with snowballs?

And I'm sure the car driver was very glad that he got pelted instead and could easily have had a dented car, broken windscreen from any stones that may have been in the snow or skidded off the road due to the distraction, taking the bike with it in the process. Point I was trying to make was that it would have been good if neither the car or bike had been pelted!!!

During the last snow I did stop and discuss snow ball throwing at traffic with a group of lads, whilst the Police drove merrily by.

Or, rather more likely, the snow balls would have hit the car making a slight 'thud' noise, causing the driver to think 'damn kids' and have nothing more come of it. Whereas if a cyclist was pelted it is much more likely that the outcome would be worse, so I'd say the OP has good reason to be happy about it.

Valid point though.

I'm with gavgav here...
Having only passed my driving test two months ago, and ending up driving home from work this evening in the snow for the first time, I was concentrating so hard, and on edge enough that if it had been me driving that car, I would have had to pull over for five minutes to gather my nerves again...
