The willingness of German thinkers from Fichte on to reconstruct the world ex nihilo has been both a shining light and an appalling curse. This is neither, and, in that it legitimises something that is clearly a minority pursuit and does, as far as one can tell, no great harm, I'd have thought that the intellectual benefit outweighed any negative social consequences.
