I've been awarded an unexpected bonus at work - Yey!

So the plan is, to pick up a second hand "racy" bike. Then evaluate my Focus Mares position as a commuting workhorse and perhaps trade that in for something a bit more hardy, but we'll come to that later.

For the time being I'm in a bit of a conundrum, I've got about £900 to spend, possibly a little more if the right thing really comes along and I'm torn between two ideas at the moment.

I've Spotted a build that's a Giant TCR 2010 frameset with Ultegra 6700 group and DT Swiss tricon wheels and hubs fot a little under a grand. All looks in decent nick and proof of purchase etc is present.

Alternatively there are a couple of Canyons/Rose etc in that price range but mostly with pretty stock wheels and more recent 105 groupset.

Is the newer frame and groupsets going to be noticably different or will the Quality wheels and higher "level" groupset be equally as good, if not better?

I'm well aware "bums on seats" applies, as usual. I shall be bumming as necessary in due time. Interested in the older/higher quality vs newer/cheaper opinions more than anything.

Thanks!

They'll be making room for new models soon.... Can you be smart and get a brand new bargain?

I can try! I'm just not sure I can see past the spec on some of the 3/4 year old models at the moment. Has carbon evolved that much in the last few years? Have the groupsets changed all that much? (Note, Not Rhetorical!)

That Giant is not good value at about a grand IMO.

Paid £1100 for a new composite 1 last year with 6800 group. Granted, the wheels were Giant own but still...

That Neil Pryde is Gorgeous... Good list, and I imagine that the first week in September might offer some deeper discounts. Thanks!
