That would take even more retraining.or unclip with the other foot.
I suppose I should go and try it, just to see what happens ... I'll be back!
PS
Ok ... I tried clipping/unclipping on both sides, at various crank angles, with different foot angles, and I also tried a second pair of shoes, and a second bike!
There were definitely differences between the pedals on one bike and those on the other, and between the 2 pairs of shoes, so pedal wear and cleat wear does make a difference, but any differences were swamped by the differences caused by foot position/angle.
None of the combinations caused unwanted unclipping.
I always had problems unclipping with a heel raised, which is the situation when I am trying to unclip at 6 o/c with my left leg. Slipping over to the left on the saddle so I could get my left heel down solved the problem but isn't something I would want to do out on the road. Right side unclipping at 6 o/c was easier. Unclipping at 9 o/c was better than 6 o/c, but 3 o/c was best. 12 o/c actually turned out to be too high.
So I am going to train myself to unclip left-side at 3 o/c. That has the advantage on steep climbs that my right foot will be at 9 o/c and still driving the bike forward while I am unclipping.
