Well that's it, I'm officially middle aged.

Glad to hear it's not affecting your knees - Long may they keep your wheels turning

45 years old today.
I've just had my birthday fry up. I got a lovely shirt, a box of peppermint creams (my favourite) and a bottle of Nikka Japanese whisky. Me and the Mrs are off to the Ritz for afternoon tea and a cocktail or 2 later and when I get home I'll be opening that whisky:cheers:
I'll be turning 49 this year, and thanks to cycling feel fitter than when I was 30. I guess I must have done the middle-aged stint back then, instead of now.

40 this year, yikes
do i have to start accepting i'll get permanent niggles now?
i have one at the back of my leg and have been off the bike for a while but its not really helping at moment
going to see a physio so i at least know what it is!
spoke to a mate there who is same age and he said just age catching up, told me you'll find its frustrating

Definitely not!

I'm just working on knee pain which turns out to be basically down to overuse, compounded by poor form. The more I ignored it, the worse it got, and the worse my form and performance got. I'd say work on overcoming all niggles, since there's always a reason for them. They are a sign of something out of whack!

I was 40 in december, i agree that you just get niggles now. My feet ache and my knees are shot.
A chap i work with went to see the doctor about his knees which hurt when he went jogging, the doctor just told him it was normal for a man over 40.

That is just criminal. GP's should be disciplined severely for giving such misleading and irresponsible advice. Fortunately mine referred me to a Sports Injury department at the local hospital who easily identified the problem, advised what I can do to help myself, and referred me for physio.

What right does a stupid GP have to condemn someone to a life of restricted mobility. Clearly we don't know the facts but on the face of it, just saying its normal for your knees to 'go' over 40 is totally wrong.

Tell your colleague to see another GP, and as for a referral to a specialist.

If 45 is middle aged, whats 52 then, i thought i was nearly middle aged.
45 is lower middle aged. 52 is middle middle aged. At 60, I consider that upper middle aged is looming. Physically, that is. Emotionally, I am probably still upper adolescent!
