23 years after Wimbledon defeated Luton in the FA Cup semi-final, the team started and still owned by Wimbledon supporters when scurvy knave speculators stole their club and took it away to the benighted valley of shame and humiliation that is the Milton Keynes Bowl (boo, hiss, boo!!!) these two clubs will compete for promotion to the Football League.

Meanwhile MK Dons were getting thumped in their play-off game against Peterborough and will spend another year in League 1. If AFC do gain promotion (and all but the most ardent Luton fan will wish them well) they'll be only one division away from the odious Franchise United. History beckons.

I'd love to see Wimbledon back in the thick of things. They deserve success.

same here. the club i followed from childhood suffered the same fate ( Chester FC , then Chester city and now back to Chester FC and owned by fans - yes i own a little bit) and there are plenty heading down that route.

I hope they do it .

The original Wimbledon FC was the first ever paid football match I attended in the early 70's in Plough Lane. My older brother is a supporter. My younger brother Fulham and me Chelsea. And we all want AFC to go up.

I used to go in the middle and late sixties, when they were in the Southern League. They had an ex-international Irish centreforward. He was 40. 40 years old and 40 inches round the middle.

If only all football was like that and not the filthy, money-driven corruption we are suffering through now. Still, only £810 to get your foot in the door for next season at our place! Multiply that by 35,000 and that makes....ooh quite a bit to pay some Serbian no-mark an obscene amount of undeserved cash so whaddyagonnado?

I know nothing of the history of Wimbledon but I was not a fan of the 'crazy gang' era. That said, I wish the real Wimbledon the best of luck; MK Dons, as a club, are syndicated football....

...though arguably the premier league pretty much is that anyway now.

There seem to be a few wombles on CC. They get everywhere...

I've not been this nervous and excited about a football match since, er, well, the 1988 cup final.

Dellzeqq, are you going to the game?

We used to have loads of ex-Wimbledon players at Sheff U years ago. They must've followed on the shirt-tail of Dave Bassett.
Brian Gayle, Mark Morris, Alan Cork, Vinny Jones, there must be others too.
