Wet shave ??

Shaved my beard off recently and unearthed my old Dads razor, badger haired brush and shaving soap. What a splendid way to start the day and a chin as smooth as a baby's bottom. So much better that an electric job or a stupid plastic disposable. Just idle curiosity but are there any other old blokes out there who have rediscovered ( or never departed) from this gentlemanly tradition?? I expect you young shavers dont have the free time... I tried to get Mrs BG to iron my morning paper but she wasn't enthusiastic......

Yep, I got presented with a wooden bowl containing shaving soap and a brush for the Christmas before last. Loads better results and you are right in that it represents a small moment of craftsmanship in an increasingly plastic, electric and automated world.

Hi there, started about a year ago as I was never happy with the electric shavers I had and also not with the shaving foam. Just like yourself now using brush and real shaving soap, double-edged for when I have time (don't rush with those) and good quality disposable for when I am in a rush. Still have a good electric shaver but only for when I am really lazy.
Also use shaving oil if the beard is more than a day old. Post shave treatment using allum bloc. Can't beat it!

I've been using a good disposable head razor and decent shaving foam, never really got on with electric shavers

I use Tesco Value disposable razors in packs of 20. I'm lucky, I'm very fair skinned with a very light coloured beard so I can get away with shaving every other day.

Wet shave every morning - never had an electric one- but just get a good lather with ordinary soap rather than buy foams or specialist shaving block. Grandad used to lather up with a badger brush and Imperial Leather [which I still use] and then prepare a cut throat which he used to strop every morning, braces off, using the kitchen sink and a small mirror.... loved watching him but with a frisson of horror in case....

Wet shave every time, and none of those fancy plastic jobbies! Must confess that I'm a fan of the old school barbers shop, hot towels and a good shave, can't beat it for a great start to the day!

I never wet shaved until I left my electric razor in a hotel in Barcelona and had to wait a week until I was back there to collect it.  I went back to electric, but started wet shaving when on holiday as it cuts a lot of weight out of my bag. 

At home I use an electric for speed and wet for closeness.

Always wet shave for me - soo much more pleasant than electric.

To anyone using solid soap I use this - quick as any other method and as a tub lasts about a year cheap as well

I tried an electric for a few months about a million years ago (or 1980, I can't remember which) and didn't get on with it at all. Other than that, I've always wet shaved.

Well, I say wet shave but I have a wide variety of techniques which come under that heading. My routine varies between using the razor on dry skin (if I'm in a hurry) through hot flannels (a bit of a hurry) to foaming gel (the usual technique) to brush and soap (before an interview). I often use a brush with the gel, it works it into the beard better than just using the fingers and makes the shave much smoother.

After over 10 years with a Mach3, I moved to a Gillette Fusion a few months ago, and I reckon that's a great razor.

I shave as infrequently as possible, though. I don't usually shave at weekends and I'm only shaving when I have an interview or Job Centre appointment at the moment.
