Wet shave ??

I got into shaving with a Double edged razor a few years ago and wont go back. Got sick of the prices for mach3 "blades". Discovering what an irritation free close shave actually is was a revelation . Incase anyone doesnt know theres a uk forum link below ( a bit like CC as it happens) and a great store link too.

NB. if anyone here has only tried the supermarket DE blades so far i can reccomend the sampler packs for blades. You/ll be shocked as to how much better some are for you and bulk stocking up saves a fortune!

I had no idea there were so many of us who shave with traditional soaps/creams. I have always felt something of a ludite picking up a Palmolive stick and a packet of DE blades in Tescos while the "trendies" around me pick up Gillette Finest Super Overpriced foam and the latest 26 blade razor.

I tried an electric razor when I first started shaving some 38 years ago, but couldn't get on with it, so I went onto wet shaving and have done so ever since. Once you get used to it an electric shaver can never give the closeness that a blade does. I use King of shaves oil instead of soap these days, very good.

It has recently occurred to me that most people used to shave with cold water

Why do you think that?

Women have been cooking with hot water right back into pre-history and men have been shaving with hot water ever since metal could be made to take a sharp enough edge i.e since the early Bronze Age. Shaving with cold water has always been next to impossible.

I use King of shaves oil instead of soap these days, very good.

I used to use that when I was travelling a lot, mostly for the convenience. I prefer a gel, though, as long as I don't need to carry it for 4 hours to get to a hotel in the arse-end of nowhere.

Shaving with cold water has always been next to impossible.

Norm frequently achieves the next-to-impossible then. In our first house, I could never wait the time it took for the hot water to come through and it seemed wasteful to fill the system with hot water for the sake of a few hundred ml in the sink. We lived there for about 4 years, I guess I shaved in cold water for about 3 years and 360 days.

Me neither, I wonder what the age range of wet shavers is??

My hero! The only time I have tried it has been cycle touring and I ended up with a stubbly face and a blunt razor.

Hair is a protein which softens when warm and I still reckon that most men have always shaved with warm water.

I willingly shave with cold water over the summer. It's nice and cool and refreshing and I notice no difference in razor performance.

wet shave. Never got on with lecky ones. Hate shaving though, but I do, as face-fungus just makes me look old(er)

Cold water, colder the better. A nice shaving brush to build up a foam lather and a leather belt to sharpen the cut throat razor. This does my gf fine. I use simple disposables .

I've been using a bowl/brush for a few years and a mach3. Occasionally use a gel when on holiday or the like as it saves space.

I really fancy trying a safety razor. Anyone care to recommend a starter safety razor & blade combo?
