B)....yeah sure;)

But its FRIDAY THE 13th!!! I cant tempt THAT much fate......plus I was keen to collect some footage on the Muvi cam of the alternative to cycling (for a little movie project I'm running), so tomorrow should be a good one for that...the traffic will be hideous!!

But I'm still a Wimp:blush:

In the winter I use full mudguards and a mudflap on the front combined with Ron Hills or similar.

I find I'm on wet roads far more often than I'm actually riding through the rain. For light rain I get wet. For heavy rain I use Rainlegs. They actually work suprisingly well.

I haven't see a bike with those in a very long time .. Last time was way back in the 80's

waterproof socks don't work when it's really wet - they're OK at keeping the wind out and drizzle/splashes etc.

if it's raining hard the water gets in through the big hole at the top (you know, the one where you put your foot ) then your feet are in bags of water which is not pleasant

I only use them as an extra layer of protection underneath waterproof overshoes

Been there and happily poured the water out of my socks when it has been proper wet......good for carrying water if you need to be Ray Mears !

Bring it on ! Better than being stuck in a traffic jam

Friday the 13th is generally ok for me (touch wood)

Just when I think i've got away with it it's Saturday the 14th which catches me out.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
No where to dry stuff at work for me unless i leave it in communal area which is a notorious hot spot for thiefs who will pinch stuff just for fun , to many people with access to the area to leave stuff lying about.

I do not mind getting wet but the thought of cold and wet clothing has put me off , i shall just use the car to take a load of work clothes in instead

If you're intent on using the towpath when it's muddy (I don't) then I'd be more bothered about the wear it's going to inflict on your nice new bike than getting yourself wet and muddy.

So I'd either stay on the road, with mudguards, or get a cheap second bike.

Birmingham and Fazeley canal out from Aston Uni to Aston (where you can find fighting dogs casually discarded, apparently). Not really muddly, like other canal tow-paths, merely having puddles with muddy water in them.

7 mile commute (well, probably 6, but I like to pretend that it is more).

1/3 on tow path. Most of this is on brick. Only two short sections on fine packed waste where puddles form. None on bare soil.
1/3 on roads.
1/3 through the park - occasional muddy bits, and one bit where lorries, etc are putting mud on the path, just by some major water/sewage works.

Sounds like the Rea Valley Route
