See, there's always another perspective.

The driver then goes on to say that the engine cut out twice while on the M1 so he sold the car to his next-door neighboor.

The cyclists did leave the scene of the accident. Not something you should do, especially if you're in the right! I'd agree I'd read it like that too.

That six inch gash will have been the cleats, he was probably grinning as he cycled off too.
