Whale Tail.. What's the point?

I gave up using a whale tail on the MTB a while ago, as they do very little to keep a butt clean and dry, but decided to pop one on for today's mucky ride.

Why did I bother. Total waste of time!

They are part of a tool kit for removing dents from cars using the Paintless Dent Removal method, they slide in behind tight brace bars to work the dent back out.
