Started off bad this morning when I got bike out of shed. P******* fairy had visited in the night and left the back wheel completely flat ;). Not that I was in a rush or anything to get to work (you know how it is, late out of bed, sorting 2 kids out).

Finally got puncture done and set off to work. 1st bit of commute is downhill. Realised at 25mph that back break is not working:ohmy:. Managed to get to work ok, although very cautiously.

Way home, pull up at traffic lights, go to set off and my god!!!! the pain in the back of my calf!!! Had to walk the last mile up hill home:sad:

Sounds like a torn calf to me - put a heel raise in your shoe -
***** DO NOT TRY TO STRETCH IT OUT!!!! *****

The torn fibres will only be pulled further apart and it will take longer to heal.

The heel raise (a small gel insert or as has been suggested to me, that a small piece of carpet will do) shortens the calf muscle and therefore pushes the torn fibres together and they start to heal. You may need to wear this in your shoe for 2-3 weeks - I've a proper gel based heel thingy but like I said earlier, a small piece of carpet, cut to fit your shoe, will do the job too.

I am a veteran of 2 nasty tears - one of which I was signed off work for 2 weeks as I was told not to stand on it!!! When you are sat down, keep it raised up.

;) Hope you heal quickly (or that it was just a cramp and my overly dramatic post is not needed!!)

Had the same problem with a cheap wheel. However I managed to break 9 spokes all on the drive side over 5 weeks  Got a new wheel last week as it was doing my head in but even that was not straight forward as the axle was not long enough. So then had to change the axle from the old wheel (which really was not that old) onto the new wheel. Then realised as I was replacing the screw on cassette that the reason 2nd had been jumping was because 3 teeth on the ring had snapped off . So 1 new cassette and 1 new chain later and I was sorted.

Rides really nice now

I had trouble with broken spokes and got Evans to build me a 36 spoke rear wheel.

Yeah I must admit I am seriously thinking about buying a set of handbuilt 36 double butted spoked wheels. One of the roads that I use is truly awful and I have complained to the council about it constantly.

I had trouble with being an overweight twat and carrying lots of tools and stuff and the back wheel was taking a battering so I had a word with Evans about it.

Yeah I suppose that may be an effect with me as well
