Today started off really well for me. I started the day off by locking myself out of the house. Because I was cycling in today I thought I'd picked up my spare set of house keys (rather than my main car/house keys). As the door shut behind me I realised to my horror I had the garden gate and shed keys. Thankfully I had the foresight to put my security pass and work keys in my bar bag already, or I'd be a bit buggered trying to get into work.

Then on the way into work, my Tesco torch fell off due to the vibrations from the pot holed road and my chain jammed. The torch survived with minor cosmetic damage. My chain was well and truely scrunched up and jammed between the front chainrings and bike frame. I could not for the life of me free it. Thankfully (well I wasn't really thankful that my chain had jammed!), I had a power link on so had to unlink that and co-erce the chain off that way. Naturally I dropped a bit of the power link and had to scrabble about in semi darkness trying to find where it fell (just as well my torch was still working!). Eventually I had it all free and the chain back on. Unfortunately I'd lost a bit of skin from my thumb, and my hands were covered in oil as I stupidly forgot that I had latex gloves in my bag. I was resourceful enough to have a handy pack of travel wet wipes in my bag though.

To top it off when I got into work I got shower gel in my eye. Thought that was a very nice final touch.

My dad is hopefully going to remember to come to my rescue after work and let me in with his set of keys. Hopefully the weather will stay nice, but at least I can sit in the garden shed if it rains!

A nice chance to clean and lube the bike then, eh?;)

Thanx Plax...I am soo glad it's not just me.

sometimes so many "little" things go wrong that I actually start to chuckle to myself as the "rack up".

Always works out in the end to.

Have fun in the shed!

Sorry, I laughed at your misfortune. I thought it best to come clean straight away.

You get days like that don't you. I locked myself out the house a wee while ago too, with the dog and son no.2. We had to wait for the spare keys to turn up with Mrs Crackle, who took pity on son no.2 and the dog but called me a numpty.

Back in March I managed to lock myself out.
I knew exactly where there was a spare set (in fact, the spare set) - that's the good news.
They were in New Zealand:sad: and not due back for 3 weeks:angry:
I had to go and buy a hammer and smash the glass...

Thanks to shoddy roads, my Cateye front light fell off, and is now broke and unusuable. My Raleigh wireless computer also fell off on the same road and got run over by the time I realised! Meanwhile, the cheap front bike light my sister gave me fell off on the very same road (but only because I hadn't put it on properly after stopping at a shop!), but was perfectly ok, no breaks, nothing wrong with it whatsoever. And it's brighter than the Cateye!

I didn't need to sit in the shed after all. Here I am safe and sound after my dad left the key in a "secret location". Just as well it is a low crime area! I'll be sure not to make that same mistake again!

My Mum has a key in a secret location. To find it involves getting into the garden via the neighbour's garden, finding the right rockery stone for the shed key, and then the right tupperware box in the shed. My sister once came to visit arriving when Mum was out, and realised she hadn't brought her keys, so ended up climbing over the fence and going through the whole rigmarole. I think it was when she was expecting Oli too!

I have a spare set of keys, they are in a little drawer in the sideboard, which is in the flat. That's really not clever and I must sort it out!

Actually it was inside a spare bit of drain pipe lying by the side of the house .

I did have oil smeared on my face, well my chin actually, as very kindly pointed out by a work colleague as I was on my way to the shower! I was also technically early, although I was technically late. I was aiming to be at my desk by 8am but it ending up being 20 past (contracted hours start at 8:30).

Look at it this way - tomorrow will have to go better:biggrin: Last time I was locked out by my son (in his PJ's) - it was in the evening talking, and I was talking to a neighbour on the doorstep, he came out to see what I was doing and pulled the door shut. Eldest daughter was in - but in the bath with the door shut!!! Had to wait until she got out of the bath!!!

I loop the strap for my Tesco torch over the bracket. Then if it slips out it will only drop and hang down.

and get caught in the front wheel (perhaps I need to rethink this)
