Hi there,

FINALLY got given the go ahead on Thursday for cycling again after my accident, broken finger, surgery for screws in said broken finger, and then recovery time!

Only trouble is my carbon fibre forks got damaged in the accident and the LBS has been unable to source now ones. He says that Trek have discontinued the bike and the forks and he can't find replacements wtih the right clearance for the brakes in carbon. There is no way that I am risking using the damaged forks - I've heard all sorts of horror stories about carbon and sudden breakage and don't fancy the fall if the forks break!

I contacted my Solicitor to see if I could get a new bike (as my original bike can't be repaired to its original condition) and unfortunatley the other side have not admitted liability yet so she can't get an interim payment at the moment for anything like that!

I can't believe that the other side are not admitting liability - it's such a pain as it delays everything. The police and my solicitor both quoted laws at me that state that drivers/passengers have a duty of care to not open doors onto people in the road!

I really don't want to delay my return to the bike for much longer - it's already been 7 weeks - so think I will have to just go with aluminium forks and get cycling again - does seem a bit unfair though!

Just a general rant really and anyway I wanted to join in again it's been so long - I've missed you all! ;)

Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm lucky and never had to claim on insurance (fingers crossed), but it sounds like a nightmare ;).

Have you healed well? Are you back playing the piano?

Yup - back to playing the piano. Physiotherapist reckons that it's the best exercise I can do! It's been such a long time though that I'm not playing so well. I'm sure that it'll get better soon though. I was really pleased to get the go ahead. It has seemed like a really long wait.

Got the go ahead for typing too (worst luck means no more light duties at work!)

Finger has healed really well but is a little bit crooked and is still swollen. It's stiff just on the joint at the bottom but the other joints are okay. I've got a nasty scar now though where they did the surgery and because it's so new it's got all the stich marks too!

Just want to get things moving now with the insurance claim 'cos I've lost out loads. I am down about £500 in unpaid wages for time off for the surgery and aftermath and all the various appointments at the hospital etc so that coupled with repair bills for the bike is not fantastic!

Should be grateful I came off with just a broken little finger I suppose! Didn't feel like it the day I came home from the hospital though!

Plus I set the sensors off at the Court the other day - I've now got something in common with the bionic woman!

More than a bit scared of getting back on the bike but know I will have to bite the bullet and just go for it.... suppose it's okay to be a bit reluctant though considering my user name!!
