Few musos seem to be aware of Crystal Voyager, which is a shame as it has one of the nicest-sounding and feelgoodest scores ever written for a film. Notwithstanding the excellent Echoes by Pink Floyd, which is used for the end-sequence of stunning in-tube photography, the rest of the music was written for the film, which makes it a score by my reckoning.

The film comprises one amazing surfing song/instrumental after another and the soundtrack really makes the whole film work - otherwise it would just be a collection of surfing innovation/history monologues and travelogues accompanying some fairly interesting footage.

What is particularly surprising is that music of such high quality could emanate from such little-known artists, and be so obscure. Here are two of the many superb songs.

The whole film is on Youtube, for those inclined to seek the rest of this musical treasure.

I'll vote for Shaft and Bladerunner but generally I'm not a fan of film music as a stand alone thing because it always sounds like it's missing something- the pictures, obviously!

And you don't like them much anyway!
